UPDATE: Sunday, August 11, 2024 – Power has been restored at our HQ! Our Mentor Office will reopen at 8:00am on Monday, August 12th.
Balin Law’s headquarters in Mentor, Ohio, lost power on Tuesday night due to a major storm that caused significant damage across most of Northeast Ohio. As of Thursday, we were one of over 300,000 homes and businesses in Cuyahoga and Lake County still without power. Unfortunately, we do not have an estimated time for restoration and our Mentor headquarters will be closed until further notice.
Despite these challenges, the dedicated team at Balin Law is working hard to maintain our operations. With Mentor being the central office to most of our administrative staff, our other 9 offices are affected and experiencing delays as well. Our toll-free number and our Mentor number (440-257-0096) are currently rolling over to the staff at our Cuyahoga Falls office. While as many team members are working from home as possible, we are obviously facing significant obstacles that will affect our response times.
If you have left a voicemail, please note that we may not receive your message until we are back in the office. In the meantime, we encourage you to use our website’s contact forms for New Clients, for Current Clients, or use our Live Chat. While response times will still be delayed, your message may be received sooner electronically than through voicemail.
We appreciate your patience and understanding as emergency and utility crews work tirelessly to repair the damage. We will provide updates as soon as we have more information. As of Thursday afternoon, First Energy has indicated that this will be a multi-day restoration effort for some customers. Their immediate focus is on removing the reported 3,200 hazards and assessing the damage before providing more accurate ETAs for restoration.
The City of Mentor has been posting updates from First Energy as they become available. The latest update can be found here: https://cityofmentor.com/first-energy-power-outage-update/.
We always strive to deliver first class service and appreciate everyone’s patience as we wade through this storm together.
Best regards,
Paulette Balin

Their article goes into further detail about the storm damage, the status of cleanup and power restoration efforts, and information for those who are without power in the Cleveland area. They have compiled a great list of resources, such as air conditioned shelters and community centers offering phone charging, free meals, bags of ice, water, and more.
