In the event that Congress does not come to a resolution before the start of the new fiscal year on October 1, 2021, the Social Security Administration has released a plan for continuing operations amidst a government shutdown.
The full SSA Contingency Plan can be found here, but in sum there is nothing to worry about. The main functions of the SSA and the staffing needed to carry out those functions will remain in place and continue uninterrupted.
- Benefits will continue to be paid
- Initial claims will continue to be accepted and processed
- Appeals will continue to be accepted and processed
- Hearings will continue to be held and decisions will still be issued
