Disability Benefits for an Aortic Aneurysm

Can you get disability benefits for an aortic aneurysm?

The short answer is yes. The Social Security Administration will look at criteria that determines if one is disabled. Read the detailed list of impairments under the Cardiovascular Systems defined by the Social Security Administration. One will need to apply for Social Security disability benefits to be determined if they are found disabled.

Balin Law’s client, Paula, wasn’t able to work like she used to. She had an abdominal aortic aneurysm along with herniated discs. Here is Paula’s story filing for Social Security disability benefits:

older African American woman

Why did you file for Social Security disability benefits?

“I thought I was having a heart attack in 2010. I went to hospital and found out I had an abdominal aortic aneurism. Then, I fell and hurt my back and had herniated discs. To say the least, I went through a lot and I couldn’t work. My doctor said I could do some things but that I had to watch my stress level. I was then diagnosed with congestive heart failure and several other health issues. I was a walking time bomb and kept getting worse and worse.”

What was your favorite thing about working with attorney Matthew Shupe?

“He [Matt] was very thorough. If there was something I didn’t understand, he could explain it to me in a way I could understand. Filing a disability claim is very confusing. Matt didn’t use jargon that most lawyers would. He was very honest and laid out my expectations and was very pleasant.

I am very amazed at his work and him winning me benefits. Working with him actually got me very excited because he encouraged me and I felt hopeful for the first time in a long time. I had been fighting for benefits since 2010. Initially, hired another law firm but that lawyer didn’t do much. My doctor said I was eligible for disability and referred me to Balin Law where Matthew Shupe took my case. We won the first time around!

I was just so tickled with the results. I had been fighting for disability benefits since 2010 and the fact that Matthew Shupe took on my case, brought it to Adjudication and fought hard for me and we won the first time around…just amazing.”
